Above and Beyond National Customer Service Week

As the curtain falls on National Customer Service Week 2016 we take the opportunity to reflect on just what customer service means for Howe Green.

vts hertford structural teel National Customer Service Week takes place in the first full week of October every year in countries across the globe. It has been celebrated in the UK since 1984 and was actually proclaimed a nationally recognised event by the U.S. Congress in 1992.  The aim of the initiative is simple – to raise awareness of customer service and the contribution it makes to business success and the growth of the economy.

Each year focuses on a different theme. For 2016 the theme was service champions and it highlighted that excellent service can only happen if there is a team of dedicated, professional people working together.


In the beginning…

When Antony and Angela Centa founded Howe Green in 1983 the only employee was their son, Peter. In those early days Howe Green was the epitome of a family business. Business relationships were built on the foundations of honesty, trust, respect and integrity. Howe Green developed a reputation for reliability, a rare quality within the construction sector. A combination of technical knowhow and a "can do" attitude meant that customers were given solutions not, simply, off the shelf products. The customer service culture was embedded within our company from the outset.


Some things never change…

vts hertford structural teel In 33 years Howe Green has grown to a team of 25 employees. We are using state of the art C.N.C. machinery and CAD software to streamline the design, development and manufacture of our products. The floor, ceiling and wall access covers manufactured in our factory in Ware can be found in high profile buildings all around the world, from Buckingham Palace to the Oculus World Trade Center Station in New York.

What hasn’t changed is that we remain a family business. Those original core values remain at the heart of the company today and shape the service that we give to our customers.


The Social Proof...

P. Plunkett Tiling Contractors

We have been working with P Plunkett Tiling Contractors for more than 25 years.  The company is based in the North East and was started in 1975 by Paddy Plunkett, who remains the Chairman today. 

Plunkett’s fix over 150,000 square metres of tiling every year – enough to complete the circle of the M25 in tiles!

Over the years we have worked on a diverse range of projects with the skilled team of tilers at Plunketts.  One of the high profile projects was the £8.6 million refurbishment of Newcastle Central Station.  Our heavy duty 1050 Series stainless steel access covers were used to provide access to underfloor building services in the Grade One listed building

TRI

TRI is a national Terrazzo flooring contractor established 25 years ago to work exclusively with J. Sainsbury supermarket.  Howe Green has worked with TRI from the outset. Today TRI has carved a niche as a specialist in the supermarket sector and works with all the major chains on new and refurbished stores.

TRI’s Special Projects Division, formed to develop business outside of the supermarkets, was contracted to work on the Emirates Air Line, Transport for London’s gondola link across the River Thames.  This high profile project saw the UK’s first urban cable car crossing the River Thames from Greenwich Peninsula to the Royal Docks.

Howe Green supplied our Light Duty 5000 Series and Medium Duty 7500 Series Aluminium access covers for the North and South Terminal buildings so that essential services could be accessed easily and safely.

DMC Group

DMC Group was established in 1999 by David McCartney. The company specialises in the supply and installation of all types of wall and floor finishes. They work with clients, in a diversity of industry sectors, from the inception to completion of a project.  We have worked closely with the DMC team over the last 17 years.

A recent high profile project was the development of the Northern Ticket Hall between King’s Cross and St Pancreas tube stations in London.  Howe Green products were required to provide access to essential underfloor services in an area that would be subjected to very high volumes of footfall.

Over 60 of Howe Green’s Medium Duty 7500 Series floor access covers were supplied and then installed by DMC.  The floor access panels had to be able to prevent the passage of fire through service channels in addition to protecting the ventilation ducting, electrics, communication cables and rail services within them.

"We used over 60 of Howe Green's 7500 Series floor access covers for a major project involving the expansion of King's Cross tube station. In this highly challenging and demanding environment we needed to be confident that the floor access covers installed could handle vast amounts of footfall and prevent the passage of fire through service channels. A Final Thought…

We fully support National Customer Service Week and think it is an excellent initiative. However at Howe Green we see our customer service as something that is celebrated every single day by every single member of our team and not just for one week in October.
