Gateshead Gets Active With Howe Green
As part of an £8million refurbishment of Gateshead Leisure Centre, the centres changing facilities have been completely upgraded. As part of this an effective and attractive drainage solution to remove water from the floors of the showers and changing areas was required. To achieve this, Howe Green provided its innovative HG100 channel drain system.
The scheme, delivered by main contractor Willmott Dixon as part of a design and build contract with Gateshead Council, forms part of the Building an Active Future Programme (BaAF). The programme, which involves investing £36 million, is part of a plan to improve the health of residents in the town by 2030.
Howe Green is one of the UK’s leading building product innovators, producing a range of specialist products that includes floor, wall and ceiling access panels and entrance matting solutions.
Its HG100 modular channel drain system continues the innovation. Available with both sloping and level channels, and supported with a range of 90º bends, T-junctions, stop ends and outlets, plus a selection of application-specific gratings, it represents the total drain channel solution.
Backed by a reputation for engineering excellence, approximately 90 metres of the system was installed in the showers and changing rooms of Gateshead Leisure Centre. Sitting flush with the tiled floor, it provides an effective method of draining water from the floor, helping to create a safe and hygienic environment.
In order for the drainage to sit flush with the tiled flooring, Howe Green were required to produce a reduced depth unit with special footings and adjusted outlets. Rather than Howe Green’s standard stainless steel covers, Gateshead Council specified their own plastic covers, so the channel drain was produced in a special width.
Manufactured in grade 316 stainless steel the channel drain system can also be produced in grade 304. Designed to deliver outstanding durability, with the ability to withstand up to 3 tonne pneumatic wheel loads, it will provide Gateshead Leisure Centre with an effective drainage solution that is tough and durable enough to last for years.
Capable of fitting into all types of floor finish – including ceramic tiles, resin and PVC – the HG100 system is perfect for changing rooms, shower areas, spas, kitchens, laboratories, veterinary surgeries and any other environment that requires drainage.
Following completion of Gateshead Leisure Centre, Howe Green has been approached to provide its highly cost effective HG100 channel drainage system at three further leisure developments in the area; Blaydon, Heworth and Dunsdon.
Howe Green has over 20 years’ experience working at the forefront of specialist floor component design. Continually specified on numerous high profile developments, the quality of its products is matched only by a reputation for innovation, customer care and service.
