Howe Green leads the way on the North East fitness trail

Howe Green’s modular channel drain systems have been specified and installed at Gateshead Council’s brand new and recently opened Heworth Leisure Centre and Blaydon Leisure and Primary Care Centre.

The contracts were secured following the success of a bespoke drainage solution Howe Green created originally for the £8million refurbishment of Gateshead Leisure Centre. Working with main contractor Willmott Dixon Construction Ltd, a reduced depth drainage unit was engineered with special footings and adjusted outlets in order for it to sit flush with tiled flooring in showering and changing areas. It was manufactured in 316 stainless steel and to a special width so as to accommodate a plastic cover, rather than a standard stainless steel cover, which was deemed to be more accommodating to the end users needs.

Ashmolean MuseumThis tailor-made drainage system provided a highly efficient and highly cost effective solution for Gateshead Leisure Centre and as a result, exactly the same specification was chosen for the Council’s new leisure centres at Heworth and Blaydon as well as the redeveloped Dunston Leisure Centre.

Blaydon Leisure and Primary Care Centre re-opened its doors earlier this year featuring an impressive 6 lane, 25m pool and a 317sqm state of the art gym.
Heworth Leisure Centre was opened in November and boasts a FlowRider indoor surfing and body boarding system, which is the first of its kind in the north of England. All projects form part of Gateshead Council’s Building an Active Future (BaAF) programme, which involves a £39million investment in the area to help improve the health of residents by 2030.

The HG100 system is ideal for changing rooms, shower areas, spas, kitchens, surgeries and anywhere that requires effective and reliable drainage. It can be fitted into all types of floor – including ceramic tiles, resin and PVC and sits flush with the floor to create a safe and hygienic environment. It is also built to last and will withstand up to 3 tonne pneumatic wheel loads.
