Bristol Alliance Cabots Circus - New 1050 Access Covers
Cabot Circus Bristol is a massive £500 million integrated urban regeneration scheme that includes residential, retail, leisure, offices and new landscaping. At its centre is a glass roof the size of one and a half football pitches, making inside the new outside.
Chosen for their aesthetically pleasing properties that blend perfectly with the granite flooring, and ability to cope with heavy pedestrian and vehicular traffic, Howe Green’s 1050 series covers were the ideal choice. Cawdor Stone fitted over 200 of the floor panels at Cabot Circus.
The panels provide easy access to vital underground services such as concealed pipes and cables, as well as vital building services including heating and water supply. This will ensure that should any maintenance be required, access is easy and will not require costly, time consuming and disruptive removal of paving slabs.
With the external paving set to be subject to heavy foot traffic from millions of annual visitors, a heavy duty and tamper-resistant access solution was required. In today’s litigious environment, it was essential that the covers fitted perfectly flush with their surround to avoid distortion and prevent any slips or trips occurring for visitors.
Howe Green’s 1050 covers, suitable for a wide range of demanding external environments, offered a proven method of achieving all of this whilst offering a cost-effective and low maintenance solution. Individually manufactured, without the usual costs associated with bespoke manufacturing, the panels were also easily produced to the exact dimension required for each application, which included both single and multipart layouts.
The Cabot Circus scheme aims to create a twenty-four hour live/work/play environment across the 11.8 hectare site. Masterplanner and lead designer Chapman Taylor aims to attract people back into the heart of Bristol city, by providing a quality environment with improved facilities.
