Wall Access a Must says HSE

At the end of last year, the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) issued a Safety Notice raising the issue of access to gas flues in private and public housing. It was aimed at homeowners, tenants, landlords, managing agents, house builders, local authorities and anyone involved in the gas service industry including installers and engineers on the Gas Safe register.

Ashmolean MuseumThe HSE announced key changes to industry guidance relating to existing gas central heating systems in any home where the flue system is concealed within a void – typically behind a wall. It must now be possible for flues to be inspected in order to make sure they are safe and so any home whether private, social, new or old must have an inspection hatch fitted if this is not the case. The deadline issued by the HSE is 31st December 2012.

At Howe Green, we have a range of solutions specifically for wall access whether plaster or tiled and each has its own individual merits. Our most recent addition comes from FF Systembau, our new partners in Europe. Their F4 range of plasterboard faced wall panels, unlike many competing products, are fire rated and fully compliant in the UK and in Europe. Once installed, they can simply be skimmed and finished to match the surrounding wall with a perfectly flush and virtually seamless end result.
